The Parkington Sisters Play Concord, 2/22

The Parkington Sisters bring their original tales and captivating melodies to the Capitol Center for the Arts' Spotlight Café on Friday, February 22, at 8pm as part of the On The Edge: String Theory Series.

The Parkington Sisters, Lydia, Rose, Nora, Sarah and Ariel Parkington, were raised in a musically-inclined household in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Drawing from a wide array of inspirations, they produce a sound that is undeniably their own, distinguished by vibrant string arrangements, warm, interwoven five-part vocal harmonies, and the luminous blending of sibling voices.

Despite their extensive musical background, it wasn't until 2005 that they began performing instrumentals together for the first time on the salty streets of Provincetown. Eventually their passion for songwriting emerged and their Signature Sound evolved into each sister writing and singing individually. Combining their diverse tastes, filtered through their acquired classical training, the sisters soon realized their potential for molding five dynamic voices with five confident instruments. Lydia plays cello, Rose guitar and piano, and Ariel, Sarah and Nora play violin and viola. Nonetheless, all are multi-instrumentalists and their music is embodied by vibrant string arrangements combined with tight, interwoven four-part vocal harmonies, and gorgeous, blending voices. Ambitious and intricate, the Parkington Sisters produce an undeniable expression of sisterhood able to slip from their hearts into a sound all their own.

Since 2005, the sisters have traveled the country, capturing audiences wherever they play. They have been guest artists on recordings by State Radio, The Spring Standards, Sonya Kitchell, Dub Trio, Dropkick Murphys, Horrible Crows, and recently, recorded their debut album at New York City's Avatar Studios and Studio G with engineer/producer Joel Hamilton (Elvis Costello,Tom Waits). Recent highlights for the Parkington Sisters included performing at the Bonnaroo Music Festival 2011, touring extensively with the Dropkick Murphys across the US and Canada, with sold out shows at Fenway Park and a special guest appearance by Bruce Springsteen at the House of Blues Boston, opening for Mavis Staples at Boston's Symphony Hall on New Years Eve 2011, as well as opening for Dispatch on their 2012 summer tour.
On The Edge is an exciting new series which invites our audiences to discover notable artists that are far-reaching, fresh, and fun. This season On The Edge: String Theory celebrates the talents of three dynamic ensembles where string instruments play a leading role, showcasing intricate and vibrant arrangements that cross-pollinate genres and traditions. In addition to the David Wax Museum on September 23, the series features the virtuosic California Guitar Trio + Montreal Guitar Trio on October 11 and the New England favorite Parkington Sisters on February 22.
Ticket prices: $20. Tickets are available now by calling 603-225-1111, online at www.ccanh.com, and at the box office, located at 44 South Main Street, Concord, NH 03301, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
