WAITING FOR GODOT Opens New Hampshire Theatre Project's 2012-13 Season, 11/9

Step into a New World at New Hampshire Theatre Project with Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot! NHTP's season opener had its world premiere in 1953 in a tiny Paris theater and is now considered a classic of twentieth century dramatic literature. As a true classic, the play is still controversial and subject to numerous intellectual interpretations yet Beckett remains one of the most accessible contemporary playwrights. Beckett's humor is often bittersweet and his heroes are clowns along the same lines as Chaplin and Keaton.

In most of the world’s literature, characters pursue well-defined goals: wealth, power, marriage, love. To Beckett these were just the trivial, external trappings of existence. He concentrated on what he considered the essential aspects of human existence: the fleeting nature of life; time and eternity; the individual’s sense of loneliness and alienation; the mystery of self. Estragon and Vladimir, the heroes of Waiting for Godot, have only the most fundamental concerns. “Is God watching?” they wonder, and “Does my hat fit?”

NHTP last produced Waiting for Godot over 20 years ago. The current production features NHTP Resident Company Artists Blair Hundertmark, CJ Lewis and Peter Motson, along with Knate Higgins and 11-year-old Cayden Glenn Wixson. Genevieve Aichele reprises her role as director, with assistant direction by Robin Fowler, costume design by Maura Suter, and lighting/set design by Meghann Beauchamp.

The production runs November 9-25, 2012. Performances are Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. General admission is $24; student and senior admission is $20. Member discounts apply $2 off individual tickets. For information and reservations, call 603-431-6644 x5, or email: reservations@nhtheatreproject.org.
